Blue Ribbon Day
MSS Security has proudly sponsored the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Day for the last 6 years.
Blue Ribbon Day on September 29 is a unique event in Australia. It was started by the people of Victoria as an expression of sympathy and support for two murdered policemen and has grown to become the largest public display of remembrance for police in Australia.
Blue Ribbon Day is not a charity event. It is a gift from a grateful and caring community remembering police men and women who have been killed in the line of duty. The National Police Remembrance Day Service is held at the Victoria Police Memorial in St Kilda Road and is preceded by a march of present and past members of Victoria Police. Other Memorial Services are held in many regional locations.
In appreciation of this sacrifice Blue Ribbon Day also supports a programme that funds new and improved emergency facilities in Victorian public hospitals that are named in memory of the fallen police officers i.e. The Tynan – Eyre Diagnostic Centre at the Alfred Hospital, The Silk – Miller Trauma Centre at Dandenong Hospital, the Angela Taylor Intensive Care Bed at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Tony Clarke trauma Centre at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne. So far Blue Ribbon has funded 23 units in both metropolitan and regional hospitals that treat over 125,000 patients annually.
